In the paint manufacturing industry, achieving a homogeneous, high-quality dispersion is essential to ensure high-performance finished products. Our client's requirements

Paint manufacturers face various challenges when mixing liquid components that may contain organic and/or metallic solids. The liquids must be dispersed perfectly homogeneously. Our client's request was unusual in that it required a minimum peripheral speed of around 25 m/s. This speed results in a very high shear rate. Furthermore, in this specific application, it was necessary to disperse a metal load in a solvent-based liquid in an ATEX environment.

 

The AGITEC solution

AGITEC, a manufacturer of agitators, designed a tailor-made technological solution perfectly suited to the customer's sophisticated and innovative processes. The solution includes Dispersion or Deflocculator turbines.

These agitators require high peripheral speeds to be effective (15 to 25 m/s). These dedicated mixing tools are used, among other things, in the manufacture of paints and varnishes of various viscosities.

This 355 kW ATEX industrial disperser is equipped with an 850 mm diameter dispersion turbine installed on a 20-tonne batch production tank (approx. 25 m3). As the mechanical forces generated by this mixer are very high, we have developed a special ‘high-speed’ guide turret. Its guide is lubricated by an oil unit equipped with a liquid/liquid cooling exchanger.

In order to install the agitator on the tank, the customer had to cut out the roof to accommodate the agitator head, which is over 4 metres high. This project was carried out in close collaboration with the boilermaker SOTECH, who included the significant mechanical forces generated by the agitator in their calculations.

The efficiency of the turbines and a power density of 15 kW/m3 ensure perfect dispersion of liquids, whether or not they contain solvents and/or metal fillers. The final result is uniform. Stability is excellent, as are the mechanical and rendering properties.

 

AN INDUSTRIAL DISPERSER FOR IMPROVED PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY

The power density and large size of the tank used for dispersing liquids allow large volumes of paint to be processed. This increases production capacity. Reduced equipment cleaning time improves efficiency and lowers production costs.

Dosing control, temperature control and dispersion parameter control are among the automated features of the new mixers. This makes procedures more accurate and reliable.
 

The adaptability and versatility of INDUSTRIAL mega-dispersers

Whatever the viscosity of the liquids to be dispersed, mega-dispersers are up to the task. This makes it possible to produce different types of paints, from the simplest to the most technical: water-based paints, solvent-based paints or paints loaded with organic and/or metallic solids.
